Central and North America 1973/1974.
Costa Rica: Lovely green, you get higher which we only noticed when we saw coffee grow.
The two large cycling tours brought us really completely around the world. Three years and two months we cycled 68.000 kilometres (42.253 miles) over asphalt and gravel, through deserts and mud pools, through the deepest valleys and across the highest mountains, through dust and through rain in the fiercest heat and cold.
And until the last day we still were not tired of cycling.......
The fact that we had only a few bad and many good experiences with the people on our way, has for a great part contributed to this. On our way only two things were stolen from us: a doll which hung at the back of our bicycle in a village in India (for a little girl the temptation was too great) and a pot of jam in the Andes in Peru, (they even wanted it to be brought back to us). We took great care of our belongings but there was always some things lying outside the tent which were not vital for us, but for which the people had good use, never has such a thing been stolen.
